Les armoiries de Lazarre de Schwendi |
Hohlandsbourg CastleHohlandsbourg Castle was erected in 1279 by Siegfried de Gundolsheim, the provost of Colmar. In 1289 it became part of the Habsbourgs’ possessions and the centre of the bailiwick of hohlandsberg. During the 16th century the seigniory was given to Lazare de Schwendi, an imperial captain as a reward of services rendered to Emperor Charles-Quint during the war in hungary. In 1568 Lazare de Schwendi transformed the fortress to adapt it to new military techniques and equip it with cannon. During the Thirty-Years War, in 1633, the Swedish took the castle which was demolished by the French in 1635. When the castle became the property of the Haut-Rhin département, important restoration works took place. For
ever a century, Hohlandsbourg Castle has been a very pleasant place to go
for a walk. Let yourself br tempted ! |
