The Thürnburg
In the 16th century, the Commandership of St Jean Knights of Colmar owned a
large property in the centre of Wintzenheim. The big house, knowned under
the name “château de Thürnburg” was surrounded by outbuildings, farm
land, a garden and an orchard. In 1595 it was acquired by Sebastian
Guillaume Linck, the provost of Colmar (Schultheiss), then it had a lot of
different owners.
In 1853, the Thürnburg was bought by Wintzenheim and became the Town Hall
and Court of Justice. It is still the Town House today. In the Concil
Chamber, the stained-glass windows represent the coats of arms of the
succesive owners of the building.
